Actor Elli Avram created quite a buzz when she first appeared on reality show Bigg Boss season 7 in 2013. While she was gearing up for her Bollywood debut Mickey Virus (2013), it was her proximity with the host of the show Salman Khan, which garnered a lot of attention. The film eventually failed to make an impact at the box office. Four years on, the actor says the show still holds a special place in her heart.
“Bigg Boss changed my life from not being someone known to becoming a household name. I have travelled around the world and I remember, I was in the US and while on the street outside an Indian restaurant, I heard a guy screaming ‘Oh My God, this is Elli from Bigg Boss’. That’s when I realised how huge the show has made me.”
While Elli was a part of the show, Salman’s fondness towards her was evident and even after coming out of the show, she was often spotted at his family gatherings and parties. The pictures on social media even lead to link-up rumours. Reacting to those, she says, “I actually don’t bother. I don’t give any answer to these rumours and articles. It gave me a sort of laughter. I don’t even acknowledge because I think it’ll only lead to more of them. So if they want to talk about it, I cannot stop them.”
Elli, however, is quick to add that she has found a close friend and confidante in Salman. “He gave me a lot of attention on the show and I’ll always be grateful to him for that. There have been times when I’ve been stuck while taking a decision and to seek help and guidance, I went up to him when I was confused,” she says.
In the past, rumours were doing the rounds claiming that whatever work Elli got in the industry was because of Salman. Rubbishing them, the actor clarifies, “It’s all such a big lie. The only godfather I have is my own [biological] father. My parents have supported me, whether it’s guiding me or financially. So, all the credit for my success goes to them and no one else,” says Elli who was seen in a lead role in the film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karun (2015).
